DotStar LED strips offer a robust upgrade with significant enhancements over traditional NeoPixel strips. Utilizing a generic 2-wire SPI interface, data transfers at speeds faster than the NeoPixel 800 KHz protocol with no stringent timing requirements. Experience higher PWM refresh rates for reduced flickering and superior Persistence-of-Vision effects, especially at low brightness levels.
The strips feature 30 LEDs per meter on a flexible white PCB, covered in a weatherproof sheath. Each LED emits an exceptionally bright warm white light, diffused through phosphor for consistent illumination without the typical RGB white light discrepancies.
Specifications include a 5V DC power requirement and a 4-pin JST SM connector on each 5-meter reel. The strips are sold by the meter and can be cut at 1 LED intervals or connected for extended lengths. Compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, and similar devices, these strips require two pins for data control—one for the clock and one for data.
Easy to adapt for any project, the DotStar's support for up to 32MHz clock rate data transfer makes them versatile for various applications. Ensure proper power sourcing; a 5V 4A supply powers up to 1 meter, while a 5V/10A powers a couple of meters. Avoid exceeding 6V to prevent damage. Assembly is straightforward with soldering to the 0.1" copper pads and connecting using JST SM cables.
