SparkFun 6 Degrees of Freedom Breakout - LSM6DSO (Qwiic)

Description Attachments

The SparkFun LSM6DSO 6 Degrees of Freedom Breakout is an advanced accelerometer and gyroscope sensor that comes with a substantial 9kB FIFO buffer and built-in processing interrupt functions. This compact and cost-effective breakout board is designed to be highly adaptable and can be tailored to suit various applications. With the LSM6DSO breakout, you can easily detect shocks, tilt, motion, taps, count steps, and even monitor temperature.

The LSM6DSO from STMicroelectronics is a powerful device that can read accelerometer and gyroscope data up to 6.66kHz, providing highly accurate motion sensing. The breakout's ability to buffer up to 9kB of data between reads, host other sensors, and drive interrupt pins is all thanks to the LSM6DSO's built-in FIFO.

The LSM6DSO breakout is part of the SparkFun Qwiic Connect System, an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables designed for easy and error-free prototyping. The breakout requires no soldering to connect to your system, thanks to the Qwiic system. However, if you prefer, 2.54mm-spaced pins have been broken out for breadboard use. The LSM6DSO is a 3.3V device, so it's important to avoid supplying voltages greater than ~3.6V to prevent permanent damage to the IC. A logic level shifter is required for any development platform operating at 5V.

The LSM6DSO breakout comes with two Qwiic connectors and an I2C address. It has an accelerometer measurement range of ±2/±4/±8/±16 g full scale and a gyro measurement range of ±125/±250/±500/±1000/±2000 dps full scale. It also features an embedded temperature sensor with a 16-bit resolution. The operating voltage range is 1.71V to 3.6V, typically 3.3V if using the Qwiic cable. The power consumption is 0.55 mA in combo high-performance mode and 0.265 mA in combo low-power mode. The LSM6DSO breakout offers an "always on" experience with low power consumption for both accelerometer and gyroscope. It comes with an I2C/SPI serial interface with main processor data synchronization feature and a smart FIFO up to 9 kbyte based on features set. The operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.

SparkFun provides comprehensive documentation for the LSM6DSO breakout, including a schematic, Eagle files, board dimensions, a hookup guide, a datasheet (LSM6DSO), application notes, Qwiic info page, Arduino library, and a GitHub Hardware Repo.
