Adafruit Electret Microphone Amplifier - MAX9814 with Auto Gain Control

Add an ear to your project with this well-designed electret microphone amplifier with AGC. This fully assembled and tested board includes a 20-20KHz electret microphone soldered on for precise audio capture. Powered by the Maxim MAX9814, it excels at amplifying electret microphones where audio loudness is unpredictable.

This advanced module features built-in automatic gain control, ensuring that loud sounds are softened to prevent clipping, while quiet, distant sounds are enhanced. It's ideal for audio recording or detection in dynamic environments without constant gain adjustments. With a default max gain of 60dB, users can adjust to 40dB or 50dB if needed, and customize the Attack/Release ratio.

The amp output is approximately 2Vpp max on a 1.25V DC bias, compatible with Analog/Digital converters up to 3.3V input. For Line Input usage, a 1-100uF blocking capacitor in series is suggested, with 100uF offering optimal sound quality. Audio-reactive projects benefit from an FFT driver library to convert audio input into frequencies.
