The CCS811 sensor provides eCO2 readings in parts per million (PPM) and TVOCs in parts per billion (PPB). It has a unique feature that enables it to refine its readings when provided with current humidity and temperature data. The BME280 sensor comes in handy here, as it measures humidity, temperature, and barometric pressure. This synergy allows the sensors to provide more accurate readings than they could individually, all easily interfaced via I2C.
The I2C address of the Environmental Combo Breakout is 0x77 / 0x5B and can be altered to 0x76 / 0x5A through a jumper selection. A multiplexer/Mux is necessary to communicate with multiple Environmental Combo Breakout sensors on a single bus. If you need to use more than one sensor, consider using a Qwiic Mux Breakout.
The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is a comprehensive ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables that make prototyping faster and less error-prone. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector. This design reduces the amount of required PCB space and ensures correct polarized connections.
The Environmental Combo Breakout can also be automatically detected, scanned, configured, and logged using the OpenLog Artemis datalogger system. No programming, soldering, or setup required!
