SparkFun's Arduino IoT Weather Station is an all-in-one solution for weather monitoring, offering a range of features that can be utilized by professionals and hobbyists alike. This kit is designed to work seamlessly with Arduino Cloud, an IoT platform that brings your creations to life. The Arduino library, created by SparkFun, is specifically designed for use with the MicroMod Weather Carrier Board and MicroMod ESP32 Processor, enabling users to record wind speed, direction, and rainfall data with reliable wireless capabilities.
The MicroMod Weather Carrier Board is a versatile peripheral within the MicroMod ecosystem. It comes equipped with two sensors: the BME280 temperature, pressure, and humidity sensor, and the AS3935 lightning detector. This board allows you to create a weather station with a variety of processors.
The kit also includes a soil moisture sensor and a pair of RJ11 jacks to connect the wind and rain sensors to the included Weather Meter Kit. The carrier board features a microSD card slot, enabling you to log all your weather data using the MicroMod processor of your choice.
The rain gauge is a self-emptying bucket-type device that activates a momentary button closure for each 0.2794mm of rain collected. The anemometer encodes wind speed by closing a rotation switch, while the wind vane reports wind direction as a voltage produced by the combination of resistors inside the sensor.
MicroMod is a modular interface ecosystem that connects a microcontroller “processor board” to various “carrier board” peripherals. Utilizing the M.2 standard, the MicroMod standard is designed to easily swap out processors on the fly.
This kit includes:
- SparkFun MicroMod ESP32 Processor
- SparkFun MicroMod Weather Carrier Board (without UV Sensor)
- Weather Meter Kit
- SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor (with Screw Terminals)
- Jumper Wires Premium 30.48cm M/M Pack of 10
The ESP32 MicroMod Processor Board features a dual-core Tensilica LX6 microprocessor with up to 240MHz clock frequency, 520kB internal SRAM, 16MB flash storage, integrated 802.11 BGN WiFi transceiver, and hardware-accelerated encryption.
The MicroMod Weather Carrier Board (without UV Sensor) features a BME280 Barometric Pressure/Humidity/Temperature Sensor and an AS3935 Lightning Detector, along with two RJ11 Connectors for wind and rain sensors, and a 3-pin latch terminal to connect a soil moisture sensor.
The Weather Meter Kit includes a wind vane, cup anemometer, tipping bucket rain gauge, two-part mounting mast, rain gauge mounting arm, wind meter mounting bar, two mounting clamps, and four zip ties.
The Soil Moisture Sensor is PCB coated in ENIG (Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold) and includes a 3-pin screw terminal (pre-assembled).
Documentation for all components is readily available, including datasheets, hookup guides, and Arduino libraries. Examples of Arduino projects utilizing this kit can be found on the Arduino Project Hub and the SparkFun Blog.
