The amplifier features fully-differential inputs that are safe for both floating and ground-referenced audio signals. This makes it compatible with a variety of audio sources, including the MP3 Shield from SparkFun. A shutdown input is included to conserve power when the amplifier is not in use. A solder jumper and header are also provided for the connection of a volume-control potentiometer (not included).
The class-D design of the amplifier outputs a 250kHz PWM-like signal that is converted back to an analog voltage in the speaker's coil. This unique feature contributes to the amplifier's efficiency. However, to minimize potential interference from the switching frequency, it is advisable to keep the amplifier as close to the speaker as possible.
