The SparkFun IoT RedBoard is a versatile ESP32 Development Board that comes packed with a multitude of features. It is built around the powerful ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip, a WiFi and Bluetooth® MCU module by Espressif that is designed to be both scalable and adaptive. This board is perfect for a wide range of applications, from low-power sensor networks to demanding tasks like voice encoding, music streaming, and MP3 decoding. The IoT RedBoard also features the Qwiic Connect System for quick and easy connections to your system without the need for soldering or shields.
The board uses a USB-C connector for USB-to-serial functionality, which requires fewer driver installs thanks to the ubiquitous CH340G. It includes 3.3V voltage translation and a Qwiic connector for seamless connection to the expanding line of I²C based Qwiic products. The board is also equipped with a microSD socket for data logging and a 2-pin JST connector for attaching a single cell, LiPo battery. It even has a built-in LiPo charge IC (MCP73831) and fuel gauge (MAX17048).
The operating system of the IoT RedBoard is freeRTOS with LwIP. It supports TLS 1.2 with hardware acceleration and secure (encrypted) over the air (OTA) upgrades, allowing users to update their products with minimal cost and effort, even after release.
The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I²C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables that make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, reducing the amount of required PCB space and preventing incorrect connections with its polarized design.
