The Flexinol® wire can be bent and formed into various shapes when in its martensitic (low temperature) form. However, when an electrical current of approximately 200mA is applied, or when the wire is heated to around 100°C, it transforms into its austenite (high temperature) form, recovering its original shape with impressive force. You can also anneal the wire at around 500°C to form it into your desired shape, which it will then return to whenever heat or current is applied.
These wires are a perfect replacement for small motors or solenoids in linear actuators. They are the "HT" type wires, known for their high performance and versatile applications.
Some of the key features of this product include a pull force of 2.83lbs (approximately 1.28kg) and a resistance of 0.31 ohms/cm. The current required for the wire to revert to its austenite form is 1.5A. These specifications make the Sparkfun Flexinol® Actuator Wire a robust and reliable choice for your actuator needs.
