Adafruit Triple LED Matrix Bonnet for Raspberry Pi - For HUB75

Description

You can now create large, dazzling LED matrix displays with your Raspberry Pi using the Adafruit Triple Matrix Bonnet. This board connects to your Raspberry Pi via a 2x20 header, simplifying the control of three parallel strings of HUB75 RGB matrices. Effortlessly craft colorful scrolling displays or mini LED walls.

The board features "active3" pinout, supporting approximately three times more panels than the single-panel Matrix Bonnet. Note that onboard power management is absent; you'll need a separate 5V 10A+ power source. Utilizing power distribution bus bars is recommended for simplified wiring.

Compatible with Raspberry Pi models sporting a 40-pin GPIO header (Zero, Zero W/WH, Model A+, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, Pi 4, Pi 5), this bonnet excludes older 26-pin boards. Pi Zero may require soldering a header onto the Pi board if unpopulated. For optimal performance, Pi 4 or Pi 5 is suggested.

For Pi 0, 2, 3, and 4, the rpi-rgb-matrix driver is advised, featuring C and Python bindings. Select the standard active3 pinout for compatibility. For Pi 5+, the PIO-based matrix driver supports up to three panels, with demo code available in the guide.

By default, a slim 2x20 header sits on the bonnet. To raise it above an enclosure, use a 2x20 riser header. To access GPIO while the bonnet is installed, a 2x20 stacking header is recommended. This bonnet simplifies mega-matrix projects, alleviating wiring complexity and errors: simple design, onboard level shifters to ensure clean, glitch-free driving, and a fully assembled compact design.

This bonnet works with 16x32, 32x32, 32x64, or 64x64 RGB LED Matrices featuring HUB75 connections. For 64x64 matrices, select the Address E pin location via an onboard switch. Chain multiple matrices for larger displays, keeping in mind the increasing load on the Pi.

This bonnet suits HUB75 type RGB matrices only and does not support NeoPixel, DotStar, or other 'addressable' LEDs. Each order includes a fully assembled and ready-to-use bonnet, minus the RGB Matrix and power supply. Calculate required power by multiplying matrix width by 0.12 Amps; for instance, a 32-pixel wide matrix demands approximately 3.85A per panel. Ensure a 5V 10A power supply is available for operation.
