Description

Analog switches provide a solid state substitute for relays, offering a compact, energy-efficient option with no mechanical wear. The Adafruit ADG728 1-to-8 Analog Matrix Switch allows connection between eight analog signals, similar to using eight mechanical switches.

This breakout board simplifies usage of the ADG728 for signals up to 5V, enabling connections through I2C to toggle between 8 channels. Bidirectional signaling means it can serve both input and output functions, merging signals as needed. Unlike digital switches, it boasts an instantaneous switch time of approximately 100nS, with break-before-make technology ensuring seamless transitions.

Care should be taken to ensure the Vin power pin is as high as the peak analog voltages intended for switching. Operating within the safe range for current sourcing is crucial, as this device is optimized for signal, not power handling. Featuring I2C address configurability and a reset pin, this customizable component integrates effortlessly into mixed device setups with its STEMMA QT form factor, compatible with SparkFun Qwiic I2C connectors.
