These hinged momentary step switches are reminiscent of the iconic 16-step sequencer keys on TR-808 synthesizers, offering a tactile and clicky feel. Often used in A/V equipment, they feature a built-in red LED for clear on/off indication or visual feedback upon activation.
Designed with four legs for enhanced mechanical stability, the switch is a momentary Single Pole, Double Throw (SPDT) type. Two pins act as the common, connecting to either of the remaining pins when pressed. It's essential to use a multimeter or refer to the included diagram to determine the pole and throws accurately.
While not suited for breadboard or perf-board use, the switches can be hand-wired or integrated into a PCB design. The LED is a 3mm, 20mA max, 2.1V forward voltage component, requiring an external resistor, such as a 1K resistor, to prevent burnout. Adjust brightness via PWM from a microcontroller or connect to a digital output as needed.
