SparkFun RFID USB-C Reader

Effortlessly connect low-frequency RFID tags to your computer with the SparkFun RFID USB-C Reader. This enhanced scanning solution is compatible with ID Innovation's ID-12LA and ID-20LA reader modules, featuring a CH340C USB-to-serial chip and a modern USB-C connection. It simplifies the process by translating module outputs directly to your terminal program, eliminating the need for complex programming. Note that ID-3XX modules may require an external antenna, and Mifare and ID-3XX models marked with “MF” are not compatible with this board.

Benefit from audio and visual confirmation with an integrated LED and magnetic buzzer that provide instant feedback when a tag is successfully scanned. For projects requiring stealth, the LED and buzzer can be disabled via solder jumpers, offering customizable feedback options.

Protect your hardware with added safety features, including a 5V/1A resettable fuse and ESD protection diodes on the USB data pins, safeguarding against unexpected voltage spikes.

Getting started is a breeze. Simply insert your compatible RFID module into the 2mm headers, connect the USB-C cable to your computer, and launch a terminal program set to 9600bps 8-N-1. Once set up, scanning a tag will immediately display its ID on your screen, making the reading process intuitive and efficient.
