The DataLogger IoT is designed without a built-in IMU but still supports auto-detection and logging of over a dozen sensors and GNSS receivers. It is easily configurable over a serial interface. Simply connect a USB-C cable and open a serial terminal at 115200 baud. The logging output is automatically streamed to both the terminal and the microSD card.
The DataLogger IoT is compatible with a wide range of Qwiic products, including various GNSS Modules, distance sensors, pressure, altitude, humidity and temperature sensors, air quality and environmental sensors, power sensors, real-time clocks, NFC/RFID sensors, biometric sensors, weight sensors, and more. This ensures a broad scope of data capture for diverse projects.
All data is recorded on standard microSD cards in clear text, comma-separated (CSV), or JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) formats. The DataLogger IoT supports 4-bit SDIO with microSD cards formatted as FAT32 and the older FAT16 formats up to 32GB. Low-power logging is also supported, with the device being able to take readings about 26 times a second with the default sensors turned on or as slow as 1 reading every 24 hours.
The DataLogger IoT is equipped with a 2.4GHz WiFi connection, allowing data to be sent to the cloud. It supports a variety of IoT services such as MQTT Client, MQTT Secure Client, AWS IoT, ThingSpeak MQTT, Azure IoT, HTTP IoT, and MachineChat. Firmware updates can be done either via a microSD card or over the air using a WiFi connection, eliminating the need for installing Arduino or a bunch of libraries.
The SparkFun DataLogger IoT is part of the SparkFun Qwiic Connect System, an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables that make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, reducing the amount of required PCB space and ensuring error-free connections.
Key features of the DataLogger IoT include an ESP32-WROOM-32E Module with an integrated 802.11b/g/n WiFi 2.4GHz transceiver, an operating voltage range of 3.3V to 6.0V, a MAX17048 LiPo Fuel Gauge, and a variety of ports including 1x USB type C, 1x JST style connector for LiPo battery, 2x Qwiic enabled I2C, and 1x microSD socket. It also features various LEDs, jumpers, and buttons for easy operation. The device measures 1.66in. x 2.00in. and weighs 10.65g.
