When you require a svelte USB C build, a sunken-type connector straddling the PCBA maintains exceptional slimness. This breakout provides all the contacts for a USB Type C connector, positioned lower than the classic horizontal USB-C breakout and vertical versions.
USB C offers a symmetric and reversible connector, along with more data pins and a higher current output capability. Despite these additions, most developers can still utilize the pin configuration familiar from older USB versions.
This breakout provides all essential features, emulating classic USB 2.0 with a resistor setup for downstream connections. The two 5.1K resistors on the CC pins signal the upstream port to supply 5V and up to 1.5A—provided the upstream port can handle that current. Typically, VBUS connects to your 5V input, GND to ground, and D+ and D- as expected.
Monitor the CC and SBU pins for cable polarity or side-band data transmission, or simply leave them unconnected. More detailed information is available through resources like the Introduction to USB C app note.
