Analog switches offer a reliable, solid-state alternative to mechanical relays, providing a compact and energy-efficient solution for switching between two analog signals. The Adafruit STEMMA Analog SPDT Switch simplifies the use of the MAX4544 SPDT analog switch, capable of handling signals up to 12V without requiring intricate soldering.
This versatile chip allows near-instantaneous switching with a speed of approximately 30nS and ensures break-before-make protection to prevent accidental short circuits between Normally Closed (NC) and Normally Open (NO) pins.
Key considerations include powering the V+ pin at or above the highest analog voltage you intend to switch. Note that it cannot handle negative voltages or switch signals below ground. Designed for signal transmission rather than power, it effectively maintains signal integrity without badgering a few mA of current. Equipped with a solderless JST PH (2mm pitch) connector, the board supports voltages from 3V to 12V and accepts a logic level of at least 2.5VDC, with outputs accessible via a standard terminal block or a 0.1" breakout header.
