The Adafruit OV5640 Camera Breakout with a 160-degree fish-eye lens is engineered for seamless integration with powerful microcontrollers like the RP2040 and ESP32-Sx. Featuring a 5 Megapixel sensor, this module captures extensive areas with exceptional clarity, ideal for security applications or expansive video surveillance.
Designed with backward compatibility and significant improvements, the module provides a standard 2x9 header, alongside a duplicated header strip with 0.3" spacing for easy breadboard or perfboard connection. It supports 24MHz "XCLK" clock generation, reducing the need for an additional GPIO pin and ensuring stability even with microcontrollers unable to generate the signal.
The breakout board includes innovative features such as a heat-sinking camera area with exposed ground pads to improve thermal transfer, crucial for continuous encoding. Additional capabilities include an optional VMotor 3.3V power jumper for auto-focusing support and a 3.3V power-good LED indicator that can be disabled when needed.
