This motor shield design offers a range of features ideal for powering simple to medium-complexity projects.
It includes two connections for 5V hobby servos that utilize the Arduino's high-resolution dedicated timer, ensuring no jitter. The shield features four H-Bridges using the L293D chipset, capable of delivering 0.6A per bridge (with a 1.2A peak) and equipped with thermal shutdown and internal kickback protection diodes. It operates on motor voltages from 4.5VDC to 25VDC.
Control up to four bi-directional DC motors, offering individual 8-bit speed adjustments for approximately 0.5% resolution. It also supports up to two stepper motors, both unipolar and bipolar, allowing for single coil, double coil, or interleaved stepping. Pull-down resistors disable motors during power-up for added safety.
The shield includes large terminal block connectors, accepting wire gauges from 18 to 26 AWG, and conveniently places the Arduino reset button on top. Additionally, a 2-pin terminal block and jumper enable connection of external power for separate logic and motor supplies.
Compatibility extends to Arduino Mega 1280 & 2560, Diecimila, Duemilanove, and UNO models. An easy-to-use Arduino software library is available for download, with numerous examples to kick-start your projects. The kit comes with all necessary parts for assembly, though motors and Arduino boards are not included. Detailed instructions and documentation can be found online.
