
You will be delighted by the ease of creating your own 8x16 LED matrix display with this kit designed for Feather boards. It combines two miniature 8x8 LED matrices with a FeatherWing driver board.
With a compact size of 0.8 inches square, these matrices pack full-sized LED matrix features into a small package, doubling up for a total of 128 bright white LEDs. Other color options include Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, and Yellow-Green.
Traditional 8x16 matrix wiring requires an extensive 24 GPIO pins, but this kit utilizes a HT16K33 I2C LED matrix driver to handle multiplexing, reducing the requirement to just two I2C pins. This simplified setup makes it perfect for scrolling displays or small video displays.
We've set it up to display bitmap emoticons, and you can also configure it to show moving text, similar to a sign at a mini car dealership. The kit includes a 16x8 LED FeatherWing, ultra-bright square 8x8 white matrices, and 16-pin headers.
