Adafruit 5V 1.5A Linear Voltage Regulator - 7805 TO-220

The classic 7805 linear voltage regulator efficiently converts a 7-35V input into a consistent 5.0V output with 2% regulation. Ideal for a wide array of electronic projects, it features a robust TO-220 package with up to 1.5A current capability.

Equipped with internal current limiting and thermal shutdown protection, this regulator provides reliable performance, standing up to overworking without risk of damage. It operates with a ~2V drop-out voltage, requiring at least 7V input for stable output.

Although it draws a 6mA quiescent current, it manages heat effectively with proper heat-sinking. For instance, using a 9V input and drawing 1A results in 4W power dissipation, necessitating a heat sink.

This versatile regulator doesn’t need capacitors for stability, yet for optimal performance, the use of 10uF electrolytic capacitors on the input and output is recommended.
