What's better than a single LED? Lots of LEDs! And what tops lots of LEDs? Twice as many! The 16x8 LED Matrix Backpack doubles your project’s matrix capacity, making two 8x8 matrices conveniently fit on one board.

Controlling 64 LEDs usually demands 16 pins, and 128 LEDs take 24 pins. Driver chips like the MAX7219 handle this but involve complex wiring and occupy space. The 16x8 LED matrix backpack eliminates the need for intricate wiring, enabling seamless control of two matrices.

Ideal for scrolling or compact video displays, it allows flow from one matrix to the other, resembling a mini dealership sign. Powered by something like a Trinket (not included), this makes for a compact ensemble. The HT16K33 driver chip simplifies display control, while constant-current drivers ensure bright and consistent color.

Features include 1/16 step dimming and a simple I2C interface. Address-selection jumpers let you chain up to eight 16x8 matrices on a single I2C bus. The kit includes a tested 16x8 LED Backpack, two ultra-bright white matrices, and a 4-pin header.

Some soldering is necessary to attach the matrices, a straightforward task taking just 10 minutes. A detailed tutorial guides you through soldering, wiring, and display control, with a library to get you operational in under half an hour.
