The Tiny Code Reader from Useful Sensors is a compact, cost-effective hardware module that reads QR codes, designed for seamless integration into systems. It simplifies tasks like Wi-Fi provisioning or offering input where keyboards aren't available.
Internally, this module incorporates an image sensor and a microcontroller on a single board, keeping complexities hidden for straightforward product integration. It communicates via an I2C connection and uses the standard STEMMA QT / Qwiic connector with easily recognizable wire colors: yellow for SCL, blue for SDA, red for 3.3V, and black for GND.
Specifications include support for I2C bus speeds up to 400k baud at 3.3V power, with no support for other voltage levels. The image sensor requires a clear field of view to function optimally. Its versatile design allows for mounting in any orientation without affecting QR code recognition quality.
The board includes a mounting hole and alternative pads for direct wiring if needed, with snap-off edges for those requiring smaller sizes. Additionally, example code for CircuitPython is available to facilitate quick and effective deployment in your projects.
