Thermoelectric Cooler

Description Attachments

Thermoelectric coolers (TEC or Peltier) create a temperature differential on each side, allowing one side to heat up while the other cools down. This versatile device can be used for both heating and cooling applications, depending on which side is utilized. Additionally, it can generate electricity from a temperature differential. Thermal tape is highly effective for attaching heat sinks to the hot side.

This Peltier module performs optimally when heat is efficiently removed from the hot side. Upon activation, the hot side heats up rapidly while the cold side cools down. Without adequate heat dissipation (using a heat sink or similar device), the module will quickly reach equilibrium and cease to function effectively. An old computer CPU heatsink or a metal block can be used to draw heat away. Using a computer power supply and CPU heatsink, the cold side can become so cold that it is uncomfortable to touch.

Note: A heat sink on the hot side is crucial. Operating the module without one can cause damage. If the hot side is too hot to touch comfortably, it is in the danger zone.
