SparkFun PIR Breakout Starter Kit (1uA)

The SparkFun 1uA PIR Breakout Starter Kit equips you with everything required to explore the capabilities of Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors. These sensors are excellent for motion detection within a compact area around the sensor. The kit features a SparkFun EKMB1107112 PIR Breakout, equipped with a Panasonic EKM-series PIR sensor. These sensors are designed to detect small movements, making them ideal for battery-powered applications, thanks to their incredibly low standby current consumption of 1µA.

PIR sensors are unique as they don't return specific distance data. Instead, they monitor for IR light from objects within their field of view and activate their signal when motion is detected. This makes them perfect for a variety of applications such as building automation for energy saving, automated on/off lighting control, security systems, appliances, and IoT.

The PIR sensor in this kit provides a digital output across 32 zones at a detection distance of 5m, with a 90° x 90° detection area. The kit also includes a SparkFun RedBoard Qwiic, a mini breadboard, a 3-pack of jumper wires, and a reversible USB-A to Micro-B cable, all designed to make your setup process as simple as possible. The PIR in this kit comes with headers already soldered on for easy use.

Please note that the sensitivity of passive infrared sensors can be influenced by environmental conditions. Therefore, it is recommended to perform a performance evaluation test under representative conditions.
