SparkFun PIR Breakout - 170uA w/ Headers

The SparkFun EKMC4607112K PIR Breakout is a compact and efficient board fitted with a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor from Panasonic^®. This sensor is designed to detect motion in a small area around it, making it ideal for a range of applications such as home and building automation, security, and IoT. The EKM-series PIR sensors are especially sensitive to small movements, providing a reliable motion-sensing solution for continuously powered applications.

PIR sensors function by monitoring for infrared light from objects within their field of view. They don't provide specific distance data but activate their signal once motion is detected within their sensing area. This makes them perfect for applications such as automatic device activation upon motion detection, energy-saving automation, and automated on/off lighting control.

The PIR sensor in this SparkFun breakout is part of Panasonic's low-profile series, standing at 10.9mm as opposed to the standard 14.4mm. This compact design is ideal for space-constrained projects. The sensor is equipped with a lens to create various detection zones, an optical filter to block non-infrared light, pyroelectric sensing elements, electromagnetic shielding for all circuitry, and an impedance converter to generate an electrical signal. The sensor provides digital output across 32 zones at a detection distance of 5m, with a 90° x 90° detection area.

Note: The performance of passive infrared sensors can be affected by environmental conditions. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct a performance evaluation test under representative conditions.
