The SparkFun Photoacoustic Spectroscopy CO
2 Sensor is equipped with the XENSIV
™ PAS CO2 sensor from Infineon
©. It provides precise CO
2 measurements in parts-per-million (ppm) via I
2C, UART, and PWM interfaces. Utilizing photoacoustic spectroscopy, it combines narrow-band filtered IR light and a sensitive microphone to detect CO
2 levels ranging from 0 to 32,000ppm, with an accuracy of ±(30ppm + 3%) between 400ppm and 5,000ppm. The integrated microcontroller ensures direct ppm readouts through any of the three communication interfaces.
The sensor is ideal for applications requiring high accuracy in CO2 monitoring, such as environmental sensing, HVAC systems, and indoor air quality assessments. The 12V IR emitter is powered by an AP3012 boost regulator, transforming a 3.3V Qwiic connection to a stable 12V output. The board's dimensions are 2.54cm x 4.06cm, slightly larger than standard Qwiic breakouts, accommodating the necessary components for efficient operation.
Unique functionalities include the interrupt pin, which can signal alarm thresholds, data readiness, and sensor status. It can also be configured for early measurement notifications and to activate the boost regulator only during measurements, conserving power. These features make it suitable for battery-powered and low-energy applications.
Note: The PASCO2V01 sensor requires a week-long calibration period, with measurements taken every 10 seconds. During this time, the sensor must be exposed to outdoor air for at least 30 minutes. Refer to the provided application notes for detailed calibration instructions.
