If you want to do more with the BBC micro:bit, accessing those pins from the card-edge connector is your first hurdle. Unlike many dev boards, the micro:bit isn't breadboard friendly. This feature makes it durable and easy to manufacture but requires a special connector.
This surface-mount edge connector is designed specifically for the micro:bit. It's exceptionally slim and fully SMT, simplifying the automation process. It only has contacts on one side, mirroring the design of the micro:bit, which helps save costs by using resources efficiently.
This version is a Right-Angle style, allowing the micro:bit to lay parallel to the PCB. A Straight style version is also available, where the micro:bit connects perpendicular to the PCB.
