Adafruit Red Electroluminescent (EL) Wire - 2.5 meters

Electroluminescent wire, or EL Wire, is a stiff wire core coated with phosphor, encapsulated within a protective PVC sheath. When powered with an AC signal, it emits a bright glow, similar to neon. This particular wire features a vivid red coating, offering a unique aesthetic for diverse projects.

The 2.6mm thick EL Wire is twice as bright as standard 2.3mm options, emitting 32 cd/m² at 1.5KHz/90V. It draws merely 10mA per meter, making it an energy-efficient option, ideal for costuming, decorative lighting, safety gear, and more. Although it is highly flexible and retains its shape, it is not designed for long-term outdoor exposure to UV, which may cause fading.

This 250 cm length of pre-cut, pre-soldered EL Wire connects effortlessly to an inverter, allowing you to illuminate projects instantly. Note: This EL Wire requires an inverter providing approximately 100V at 2000 Hz, which is not included. When used with a standard 2xAA portable pocket inverter, it will illuminate fully with a 200mA draw for approximately 10 hours on constant mode with 2000mAh batteries.
