Adafruit NeTV2 - Open Video Development Board

For cutting-edge HDMI development, the NeTV2 is an essential tool, enabling you to overlay your own data on top of HDMI, even with encrypted streams. This enhanced version serves as an add-on board for a Raspberry Pi, harnessing the Linux runtime for development alongside powerful FPGA video encoding.

NeTV2 was designed by Alphamax, the open-source hardware company founded by "bunnie" Huang, renowned for his work on “Hacking the XBox” and the Chumby internet alarm clock. Fabricated in South Korea, the NeTV2 is a fully open-source HDTV peripheral that integrates WiFi, Internet, and Android mobile interfacing with any HDMI TV.

The NeTV2 is versatile, catering to both "NeTV classic" mode for video overlays with encryption and “libre” mode for deep video processing on unencrypted feeds. It allows web content overlays on HDMI feeds, such as BluRay inputs. Featuring Angstrom Linux and Webkit for chroma-key video compositing, it easily overlays social media feeds and SMS notifications from Android devices.

Development is user-friendly with a UI in Javascript/HTML, convenient HTTP API, and zeroconf discoverability through Bonjour, ensuring seamless integration with smartphones or laptops. The FPGA video compositing is customizable using built-in command-line tools and Xilinx's free Webkit development environment, offering ample room for innovation.

The NeTV2 development environment options include Javascript/HTML for UI and applications, remote control via iOS/Android reference apps, and command-line or cloud-based kernel development. It also supports Verilog/VHDL hardware development on FPGA via Xilinx tools and hardware customization through its open-source stack.

The complete NeTV2 kit includes a fully assembled NeTV2 PCB dev board, Raspberry Pi 3 B+, NeTV2 plastic enclosure kit with extra space for additional components, and a 12V 1A wall plug power supply, providing everything needed to embark on your development journey.
