Galileo, powered by the Intel® Quark SoC X1000, offers a robust platform compatible with Arduino shields for seamless integration. Designed with the 32-bit Intel Pentium-class system on a chip, it embodies high performance and versatility.

Galileo ensures pin compatibility with Arduino Uno R3, retaining digital and analog pin locations, power header, ICSP header, and UART port pins—commonly referred to as the Arduino 1.0 pinout. With support for both 3.3V and 5V operation, the board adapts to various shield requirements via a configurable jumper, defaulting to 5V translation.

Software compatibility with the Arduino IDE streamlines development, reducing the learning curve for users. Beyond standard Arduino functionalities, Galileo integrates PC industry-standard I/O ports like a mini-PCI Express slot, 100Mb Ethernet, RS-232 serial port, and USB ports.
