For substantial projects requiring robust power solutions, an AT or ATX power supply provides reliable 5V or 12VDC. Standard connectors, unfortunately, only fit motherboards or hard drives. This cable bridges that gap with a 4-pin Molex connector compatible with hard drive/CD-ROM power cables, allowing direct access to 5V or 12V outputs.

Utilize this cable even while your computer runs to highlight components with LEDs, VFDs, or LCD displays. In specific older drives, the 12V supply may require stabilization. In such cases, soldering a 10 ohm 10 Watt power resistor between ground and 5V can stabilize the 12V supply by ensuring adequate current draw on the 5V line.
