The Sparkfun CAN-BUS Shield is a high-performing accessory for your Arduino or Redboard, providing it with the ability to interact with your vehicle's systems. The Shield is capable of polling the ECU of your vehicle to gather data such as coolant temperature, throttle position, vehicle speed, and engine RPMs. This data can be stored or displayed for an in-dash project.
The Shield employs the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller coupled with the MCP2551 CAN transceiver. It connects via a standard 9-way sub-D connector, making it suitable for automotive CAN applications. The Shield is equipped with a micro SD card holder, a serial LCD connector, and a socket for an EM506 GPS module, making it perfect for data logging applications.
Please note that a DB9 Cable is not included with the Shield. Check the recommended products section for a suitable cable. This product is a collaboration with SK Pang Electronics, with a portion of each sale going back to them for product support and continued development.
