Adafruit Brass Liquid Solenoid Valve - 12V - 1/2 Inch G / BSP Thread

Control the flow of fluid using the flow of electrons! This liquid valve is a perfect addition for projects like robotic gardening, aquariums, or pools. Equipped with two 1/2" British Standard Pipe/German Thread outlets, this valve stays closed by default and opens when 12VDC is applied, allowing water to flow seamlessly.

Unlike plastic solenoid valves, this model doesn't include a gasket, eliminating any minimum pressure requirements. However, keep in mind a few drips may occur under pressure when closed. It can actuate at voltages as low as 6VDC, albeit slightly slower.

For smooth operation, consider using a TIP120 or N-Channel power FET with a 1N4001 kickback diode, which works well when controlled by a microcontroller pin. For power, a 12V 5A adapter is recommended. Additionally, a more basic plastic valve is available for projects needing lower power requirements, although it does require minimum pressure.

These solenoids are made of cast brass with an NBR (Nitrile Rubber) gasket. While not officially rated for food safety, they're suitable for many fluid types that are compatible with the gasket material.
