Adafruit WINC1500 WiFi Shield with uFL Connector

Connect your Arduino-compatible devices to the Internet with this WiFi shield using the FCC-certified ATWINC1500 module from Atmel. This high-performance 802.11bgn-capable module provides seamless networking capabilities with SSL support, ensuring secure and stable connections. It ran the Adafruit.io MQTT demo for an entire weekend without interruptions.

The WiFi shield uses SPI communication along with some GPIO for easy setup. Compatible primarily with SAMD21-based boards such as the Arduino Zero, Metro M0 Express, and M4s, it does not fit 328P, 32u4, or attiny-based boards. Fast clocking at 12MHz allows for quick network scans and connections, while supporting WEP, WPA, and WPA2 encryption ensures robust security.

This shield supports Soft AP mode for ad-hoc networks and TLS 1.2 for secure connections. It includes a uFL connector for optional external antennas, and there's also a version with a PCB trace antenna. The shield accommodates 3V or 5V logic boards with built-in level shifting and a 3.3V voltage regulator for stable power delivery. Three LEDs provide visual feedback for network connection and data transmission.

A micro SD card socket adds functionality for data hosting and storage, though note limitations with ATmega328-based Arduinos like the UNO. For enhanced memory capabilities, consider the Metro M0 Express. Currently, there are no CircuitPython/MicroPython drivers for this module.
