The SGP40 Multi-Pixel Gas Sensor provides an efficient way to monitor air quality indoors, detecting a range of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and hydrogen. It offers I2C interfacing, eliminating the need for managing the heater and analog readings associated with traditional metal-oxide sensors.
This sensor features advanced technology with multiple metal-oxide sensing elements on a single chip, delivering detailed air quality signals. With a built-in microcontroller, the SGP40 controls the power and processes the readings, producing an air quality index value between 0 to 500 using the Sensirion algorithm.
For enhanced accuracy, the sensor allows humidity compensation, an essential feature when calibration against known sources is needed for precise measurements. The sensor requires an external humidity sensor to provide relative humidity data via I2C.
Utilizing the STEMMA QT form factor, the SGP40 sensor is mounted on a custom PCB, facilitating straightforward integration. Solderless connections are possible with SparkFun Qwiic-compatible I2C connectors, allowing easy chaining with additional sensors and accessories.
Compatible with libraries available for Arduino and Python/CircuitPython, the SGP40 can be seamlessly integrated with systems operating at 3.3V or 5V, including platforms like the Arduino Uno or Feather M4, thanks to its onboard 3.3V voltage regulator and level shifting capabilities.
