Adafruit Radio FeatherWing - RFM69HCW 900MHz

Add short-hop wireless to your Feather with these RadioFruit Featherwings. Perfect for integrating packetized radio via the RFM69 or LoRa radio using the RFM9x, they offer vast options for kilometer-range communication. Pair these with a Feather board that supports WiFi, cellular, or Bluetooth® to bridge from 433/900 MHz to the Internet or mobile devices.

These radio modules come in four variants, with two types of modulation and two frequencies. The RFM69 is known for ease of use, while the LoRa radios boast extended range and increased power, albeit at a higher cost.

The RFM69 @ 900 MHz, for example, is a versatile choice for packetized FSK/GFSK/MSK/GMSK/OOK radio. It operates within the 868 or 915 MHz bands of the Americas ITU 2 license-free ISM, with stipulated restrictions for amateur use. An essential feature allows it to be set to operate at either frequency via software configuration.

Equipped with +20dBm FSK packet radios enhanced with extras like encryption and auto-retransmit, these modules can achieve extensive ranges with proper antennas and settings. They include an SX1231 based module with an SPI interface, and offer quick integration with ready-to-go Arduino libraries.

The radios use license-free ISM bands, with power outputs ranging from +13 to +20 dBm. Current draw is from 50mA (+13 dBm) to 150mA (+20 dBm) during transmissions. Create robust multipoint networks, employing features like AES-128 encryption to secure communications.

Compatible with various Feather boards such as the Feather ESP8266, Feather 32u4, and more, some wiring is necessary to configure the FeatherWing for your specific chipset. Radios are sold individually and are only compatible within matching frequency types, such as RFM69 900 MHz with another RFM69 900 MHz.

Each FeatherWing comes with headers that require soldering, and you'll need to attach a small wire or, optionally, a uFL or SMA edge-mount connector for an external antenna.
