The Adafruit OPT4048 Tri-Stimulus XYZ Color, Light Temperature, and Lux Sensor is a modern solution for true "CIE" XYZ output, seamlessly matching existing color spaces. It effectively calculates color temperature based on CIE standards, and includes Lux calculations up to 144 kLux, making it ideal for measuring light intensity even in the brightest environments.
The sensor offers extensive configurability, allowing adjustment of integration time to set measurement sensitivity according to lighting conditions, ranging from 600 μs for ultra-bright to 800 ms-per-channel in dim settings. A low/high threshold interrupt is also available for enhanced functionality.
To simplify usage, the OPT4048 is mounted on a breakout PCB with support circuitry, compatible with both 3.3V (Feather/Raspberry Pi) and 5V (Arduino/Metro328) logic levels. Utilizing the I2C interface, connection is straightforward with just two wires, plus power and ground.
Additionally, the sensor includes SparkFun Qwiic compatible STEMMA QT connectors, eliminating the need for soldering. Pair it with a microcontroller using CircuitPython/Python or Arduino drivers to effortlessly obtain CIE, Lux, and light color temperature readings within minutes. Note: QT Cable is sold separately.
