Add short-hop wireless to your Feather with these RadioFruit Featherwings. These versatile add-ons enhance any Feather board, enabling integration with packetized radio (RFM69) or LoRa radio (RFM9x). Perfect for kilometer-range communication, they seamlessly connect 433/900 MHz to the Internet or your mobile device when paired with WiFi, cellular, or Bluetooth Feathers.
Available in four variants, the RFM69 and LoRa radios offer two modulation types and two frequencies. Opt for the user-friendly RFM69 or the longer-range yet more costly LoRa. Options include RFM69 at 433 MHz, suitable for Europe ITU 1 license-free ISM, or RFM69 at 900 MHz for Americas ITU 2 license-free ISM.
LoRa radios, such as the RFM98 at 433 MHz or RFM95 at 900 MHz, bring exceptional performance, vetted to 20 km with tweaking and directional antennas. The LoRa 9x @ 900 MHz version supports either 868MHz or 915MHz transmissions, providing extensive adaptability with dynamically tunable software.
SX127x LoRa-based modules interface via SPI, offering packet radio functionality with Arduino libraries. Operating within license-free ISM bands, they provide 5 to 20 dBm output. Efficiency is notable at ~300uA during sleep, ~120mA at peak transmit, and ~40mA while actively listening.
Our tests demonstrated over 2 km line-of-sight with wire antennas. Compatible with Feather ESP8266, Teensy 3 Feather, Feather 32u4, and Feather M0 series, setup requires some wiring to configure the FeatherWing. Radios are compatible only among identical part numbers and require antenna assembly through soldering or connectors for external options.
