Add short-hop wireless to your Feather with these RadioFruit FeatherWings. These add-ons for any Feather board allow seamless integration of packetized radio using RFM69 or LoRa modules. Ideal for kilometer-range communication, they can bridge 433/900 MHz frequencies to the Internet or mobile devices.
The RFM69 radios operate at 433 MHz or 900 MHz, offering straightforward packetized FSK/GFSK/MSK/GMSK/OOK modulation. These frequencies are suitable for license-free use under specific regional regulations.
The RFM95 LoRa radios, available at 433 MHz or 900 MHz, offer longer-range capabilities and enhanced performance. With the ability to transmit up to +20 dBm, they are capable of reaching up to 2 Km line-of-sight using simple wire antennas or extending to 20 Km with directional setups.
Each variant utilizes the license-free ISM bands and is equipped with a SX127x LoRa module with an SPI interface for compatibility with Arduino libraries. Current tests show over 2 Km range with default settings. Low power consumption is a key feature, with ~300 µA in sleep mode and ~120 mA peak during transmission.
Compatible with Feather ESP8266, Teensy 3 Feather, Feather 32u4, and Feather M0 series, configuration may require some wiring. Each radio is sold separately and communicates only with the same model. Some assembly, including soldering and antenna setup, is needed. External connectors can be added for enhanced performance.
