Adafruit USB + Serial Backpack Kit with 16x2 RGB backlight negative LCD

Adding a character display to your project or computer becomes seamless with the Adafruit USB or TTL serial backpack. This custom-designed PCB attaches effortlessly to our standard character LCDs (16x2 or 20x4), providing comprehensive functionality.

Benefit from features such as text printing, automatic scrolling, backlight setting, contrast adjustment, and custom character creation. Control the RGB backlight LCDs with full 8-bit PWM, offering a spectrum of background colors including red, green, blue, and more.

The onboard USB-capable AT90USB162 chip listens for commands through a mini-B USB port and a TTL serial input wire. Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, the USB interface appears as a COM/serial port, automatically selecting data from the active input. The TTL connection's default baud rate is 9600, adjustable via command to various other rates.

Customizations like baud rate and backlight color are permanently stored in EEPROM. Command interface compatibility with "Matrix Orbital" specifications ensures seamless integration with applications like "LCD Smartie." Simply send ASCII to the LCD, and your text will display instantly.

The mini-kit includes the Adafruit USB+Serial LCD backpack, a 16x2 RGB negative backlight LCD, and a header strip. Soldering the LCD onto the backpack is straightforward, even for beginners, with comprehensive tutorials and diagrams provided.
