Description

The Teensy 4.1 is a robust development platform that comes with an ARM Cortex-M7 processor operating at 600MHz. It has a NXP iMXRT1062 chip, flash memory that is four times larger than its predecessor, the Teensy 4.0, and two new locations for optional memory addition. The Teensy 4.1 has the same dimensions as the Teensy 3.6, measuring 61mm by 17.8mm. It also boasts improved I/O capability, including an ethernet PHY, SD card socket, and USB host port.

The Teensy 4.1 operates at 600 MHz, consuming about 100mA current. It supports dynamic clock scaling, which allows for changes in clock speed without causing incorrect baud rates or other issues. This is due to the Teensy 4.1 hardware and Teensyduino's software support for Arduino timing functions. This feature enables functions like delay() and millis(), and Teensyduino's extensions like IntervalTimer and elapsedMillis, to function properly even when the CPU speed changes. The Teensy 4.1 also comes with a power shut-off feature, which allows the 3.3V power supply to be disabled by holding a pushbutton for five seconds. The power can be turned back on with a short button press. If a coin cell is connected to VBAT, the Teensy 4.1's RTC continues to keep track of date and time even when the power is off. The Teensy 4.1 can also be overclocked beyond 600MHz.

The ARM Cortex-M7 processor in the Teensy 4.1 offers powerful CPU features for a true real-time microcontroller platform. The Cortex-M7 is a dual-issue superscalar processor, capable of executing two instructions per clock cycle at 600MHz. The Cortex-M7 is the first ARM microcontroller to use branch prediction, which reduces the overhead of loops and other code which much branch, allowing the branch instruction to run in only a single clock cycle.

The Teensy 4.1's Cortex-M7 processor comes with a floating point unit (FPU) that supports both 64 bit "double" and 32 bit "float". This means all functions like log(), sin(), cos() are executed with FPU hardware, providing faster processing times compared to software implemented math.

Please note that the Teensy 4.1 does not come with headers. These will need to be purchased separately and soldered on by the user.
