Sparkfun Split-Core Current Transformer - 100A to 50mA

The Split-Core Current Transformer is a clamp-style sensor crafted for measuring AC current without the need to disconnect circuits. It features a hinged core that easily opens to encircle a single current-carrying conductor, forming an isolated measurement system. With a 100A input rating and a 100A:50mA transformation ratio, this device is ideal for monitoring AC motors, lighting, appliances, power supplies, and other AC equipment.

This transformer offers non-invasive monitoring, making it a safe and straightforward solution for measuring heavy AC loads. It utilizes a ferrite core with a 1.3 cm by 1.3 cm opening, allowing it to effortlessly wrap around existing cables. Once clamped, it delivers a 50mA output at its 100A rated input and supports a frequency range of 50Hz to 150kHz. It maintains an impressive accuracy with ±3% non-linearity from 10% to 120% of the rated input current.

Designed for long-term and repeated use, this sensor is perfect for utility boxes and industrial settings. The hinge design is robust, withstanding at least 1,000 opening and closing cycles. It boasts a dielectric strength rated for 6,000VAC for one minute, ensuring complete electrical isolation from the monitored line. Additionally, the sensor is housed in a UL94-V0 flame-retardant outer shell, providing enhanced environmental protection.

For an optimal hardware experience, it is recommended to pair this transformer with the SparkFun Qwiic ADE7953 Non-Invasive Current Sensor (not included). The standard 3.5mm TRS plug fits directly into the ADE7953's audio jack, offering a completely solderless solution for monitoring high-power AC lines.
