The SAMD21 Mini Breakout comes with a USB interface for programming and power, an RTC crystal, and a 600mA 3.3V regulator. It offers extra GPIO pins thanks to the Pro R3’s additional PCB real-estate. The I/O and voltage rails are all broken out to a pair of breadboard-compatible headers. Power can be supplied, and the board can be programmed, through the micro-B USB connector.
A standout feature of the SAMD21 is SERCOM – a set of six configurable serial interfaces that can be transformed into a UART, I2C master, I2C slave, SPI master, or SPI slave. Each SERCOM offers great flexibility: the ports can be multiplexed, allowing you to choose the function of each pin.
The SAMD21 Mini Breakout Hookup Guide offers step-by-step instructions on how to connect your Mini Breakout, along with a few circuit examples to test out. Full example code is provided and explained, including troubleshooting tips to ensure a smooth experience.
Note: The breakout does NOT come with headers installed, these will need to be purchased and soldered on separately.
