Designed and manufactured in Boulder, Colorado, USA, the SparkFun RTK mosaic-X5 is the ultimate solution for high-precision positioning and navigation. Leveraging the multi-constellation, multi-frequency, L1/L2/L5-ready mosaic-X5 from Septentrio, this advanced RTK product sets a new standard in accuracy and reliability.
RTK, or Real Time Kinematics, enhances positional accuracy by utilizing correction data alongside signals from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). The mosaic-X5 supports signals from GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, NavIC, and additional satellites like SBAS and QZSS. It also offers built-in support for L-band correction services.
Capable of functioning as either an RTK Base or Rover, the mosaic-X5 achieves a horizontal positioning accuracy of 6mm (0.6cm) plus 0.5 PPM. Ideal for robotics and autonomous systems, it provides position updates at an impressive rate of 100Hz (100 times per second). The sophisticated module includes a full internal web page server for easy monitoring and configuration via a standard browser.
For those needing direct GNSS data logging, the mosaic-X5 can log in RINEX format with customizable durations and intervals. It also supports standard NMEA and Septentrio's SBF binary format, with SBF files convertible to RINEX using Septentrio's RxTools.
Under the hood, the RTK mosaic-X5 combines the Septentrio mosaic-X5 GNSS module with the Espressif ESP32-WROVER processor (16MB flash, 8MB PSRAM). Connectivity options include USB-C with Ethernet-over-USB, multiple UARTs, and full Ethernet support. While WiFi is not directly supported by the mosaic-X5, the included ESP32 provides this functionality, acting as an Ethernet to WiFi Bridge.
Built to be robust and lab-friendly, the internal electronics (except the Qwiic OLED display) are mounted on a single circuit board. The module features robust SMA connectors for the GNSS antenna and ESP32 WiFi/Bluetooth antenna, and a 3.5mm header with cage screw connections for IO. The IO voltage is selectable between 3.3V and 5V. The design includes carefully positioned Reset and Log switches to prevent accidental resets and facilitate easy logging. The microSD card is easily accessible for quick ejection and reinsertion. Encased in a custom extruded aluminum case with machined end panels and slotted flanges, the RTK mosaic-X5 is ready for installation in a weatherproof enclosure or server rack.
The included antenna is certified by the National Geodetic Survey, with available ANTEX and ANTINFO files for precise calibration.
Multiple power options ensure flexibility: the module can be powered via USB-C connections, Power-over-Ethernet (36V to 57V), or an external DC power source (9V to 36V). The GNSS SMA antenna connection provides 5V for the active L1/L2/L5 antenna.
