SparkFun Qwiic Mini dToF Imager - TMF8820

Description Attachments

The SparkFun Qwiic Mini dToF TMF8820 Imager is a compact, high-performance sensor that utilizes direct time-of-flight (dToF) technology. Encased in a single modular package, it comes equipped with a Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) from AMS. The sensor operates on Single Photon Avalanche Photodiode (SPAD), time-to-digital converter (TDC) and histogram technology, enabling a detection range of up to 5000mm. It features a lens on the SPAD, supporting 3x3 multizone output data and a wide, adjustable field of view. The on-chip processing of raw data, coupled with a high-performance optical filter, allows for distance measurements in both dark and sunlight environments.

The Qwiic Mini dToF TMF8820 Imager communicates exclusively via I2C, making it easy to connect to your system without the need for soldering. The device also provides two configurable GPIO pins and one enable (EN) pin. The board includes a power LED and I2C pull-up resistors, each of which can be configured via jumpers. With a footprint that is half the size of the standard version (1.27cm x 2.54cm), this sensor is ideal for mounting applications where the sensor faces outward from an enclosure or chassis.

This sensor is ideal for a wide range of applications, including distance measurement for camera autofocus, presence detection in computing and communication devices, object detection and collision avoidance in robotics, and light curtain in industrial settings. It's worth noting that this sensor is classified as a CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is a streamlined ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that simplifies prototyping and reduces the risk of errors. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, meaning you can't hook it up wrong.
