The ESP32 WROOM module at the heart of this board is powered by the ESP32-D0WD-V3 chip, which is designed for adaptability and scalability. It boasts 16MB of flash memory, 520kB of internal SRAM, an integrated 802.11 b/g/n WiFi transceiver, and dual-mode Bluetooth capabilities. The M.2 MicroMod connector eliminates the need for soldering, allowing you to easily integrate the ESP32 WROOM module into your system. Once connected, the module can be controlled using AT commands via the serial UART port.
The ESP32 Function Board is pre-flashed with AT-command firmware, enabling it to serve as a serial-to-WiFi gateway. It also features a USB-C connector and CP2102 USB-to-serial converter, allowing you to add your own AT commands or flash custom firmware on the ESP32.
Note: A MicroMod Processor and Main Board are not included with this MicroMod WiFi Function Board and will need to be purchased separately.
MicroMod is a modular interface ecosystem that connects a microcontroller “processor board” to various “carrier board” peripherals. The MicroMod standard, which utilizes the M.2 standard, is designed to make it easy to swap out processors and function boards on the go. Simply pair a specialized carrier board with your choice of compatible processor for the specific project you are working on!
The SparkFun MicroMod ESP32 Function Board features a wide input voltage range, 3.3V I/O voltage, a USB Type C Connector, a CP2102 USB-to-Serial Converter, an AP2112 3.3V Voltage Regulator, and an ESP32-WROOM-32E Module. This module includes a Xtensa® dual-core 32-bit LX6 microprocessor, up to 240MHz clock frequency, 16MB of flash storage, 520kB internal SRAM, an integrated 802.11 b/g/n WiFi transceiver, integrated dual-mode Bluetooth® (classic and BLE), hardware accelerated encryption (AES, SHA2, ECC, RSA-4096), and a 2.5 µA deep sleep current. The board also includes reset and boot buttons, a power LED, I2C Pull-Up Resistors, and PWR LED and I2C Pull-Up Resistors jumpers.
