The MicroMod GNSS Function Board is equipped with the ZED-F9P module, a high-end module capable of delivering three-dimensional accuracy up to 10mm. This makes it possible to determine the X, Y, and Z location of any object with precision roughly equivalent to the width of a fingernail. Furthermore, the ZED-F9P is capable of both rover and base station operations. The board is designed to be easily connected to your system via the M.2 connector, eliminating the need for soldering.
The board includes a USB-C connector for powering and programming the ZED-F9P directly. It also features a selection of 2.54mm-spaced PTH pins for signals not connected to the MicroMod M.2 connector. These include UART2, Geofence and RTK status signals, as well as the ZED-F9P interrupt and reset pins.
The MicroMod GNSS Function Board comes with a rechargeable backup battery that keeps the latest module configuration and satellite data available for up to two weeks. This significantly reduces the time-to-first-fix. The module also features a survey-in mode, allowing it to function as a base station and produce RTCM 3.x correction data.
The ZED-F9P module offers an incredible range of configuration options. These include geofencing, variable I2C address, variable update rates, and the option to increase the high precision RTK solution to 20Hz. The carrier board has five communication ports, four of which can be active simultaneously. These include USB-C, UART1, UART2, I2C, and SPI. The ZED-F9P's UART1, SPI, and I2C ports can be accessed without soldering, thanks to the MicroMod M.2 connector.
SparkFun has also developed an extensive Arduino library for u-blox modules. This makes it easy to read and control the MicroMod GNSS Function Board over the MicroMod's I2C bus. The library allows you to read latitude, longitude, heading, and speed over I2C without the need for constant serial polling.
Please note that this product requires an antenna and uses a u.Fl connector for the antenna connection. Be sure to choose a suitable SMA antenna and adapter for your project.
The MicroMod is a modular interface ecosystem that connects a microcontroller “processor board” to various “carrier board” peripherals. The MicroMod standard, which uses the M.2 standard, is designed to easily swap out processors and function boards on the fly. This allows you to pair a specialized carrier board with your choice of compatible processor for the project you need.
This product is compatible with u-blox® PointPerfect and includes a redemption code for 1-month of unlimited access for a single device. This allows you to take your precision to the next level with the PointPerfect GNSS augmentation service. If you purchased this product prior to January 2023 and would like to receive a redemption code, please reach out to SparkFun support with your order number.
