SparkFun Micro Pressure Sensor - BMP384 (Qwiic)

The SparkFun Qwiic Micro Pressure Sensor BMP384 is a compact, high-resolution sensor from Bosch Sensortec. It delivers precise measurements with a resolution of up to 21-bit and is designed with a gel-filled cavity for enhanced resistance to liquids. However, it is not waterproof without an appropriate integration concept. The sensor is ideal for applications that require monitoring pressure near water or in humid environments.

The BMP384 offers superior accuracy across a broad measurement range (300hPa to 1250hPa and -40 to +85°C). Its compact size (19.05mm x 7.62mm) makes it suitable for projects with limited space. The sensor features a configurable oversampling setting, a FIFO buffer that can store up to 73 measurements, and a low-pass filter, allowing users to customize its performance based on their specific needs. The Qwiic Pressure Sensor communicates over I²C by default, making it easy to connect to your system without soldering. However, please note that there is no space on this Micro-sized breakout for the extra pins required for the SPI communication protocol.

The BMP384 has three operating modes: Sleep Mode, Normal Mode, and Forced Mode. In Sleep Mode, the sensor consumes approximately 2µA, while in Normal Mode, it automatically alternates between measurement and standby periods, consuming around 700µA at peak current draw during measurements. Forced Mode allows for direct control of measurements, enabling the sensor to wake from Sleep Mode, take a single-shot measurement, and return to Sleep Mode.

Please note that the term "Micro Pressure Sensor" in the product name refers only to the size of the board, not its sensing precision capabilities. If you require a sensor calibrated to measure pressure ranges of 1-25psi from liquid media, consider the SparkFun Qwiic MicroPressure Sensor instead.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I²C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables designed to make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, reducing the amount of required PCB space and ensuring error-free connections due to their polarization.
