SparkFun GPS-RTK Dead Reckoning Breakout - ZED-F9R (Qwiic)

Description Attachments

The SparkFun ZED-F9R GPS Breakout is a sensor fusion GPS board that offers high precision and impressive configuration options. It utilizes u-blox's Automotive Dead Reckoning (ADR) technology, providing a highly accurate and continuous position by integrating a 3D IMU sensor, wheel ticks, a vehicle dynamics model, correction data, and GNSS measurements.

This 184-channel u-blox F9 engine GNSS receiver can receive signals from the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou constellations, achieving an accuracy of approximately 0.2 meters. It should be noted that the ZED-F9R operates only as a rover, requiring connection to a base station. Its ability to support concurrent reception of four GNSS systems, combined with the integrated 3D sensor measurements, provides accurate, real-time positioning rates of up to 30Hz.

What sets the ZED-F9R GPS Breakout apart from other GPS modules is its ability to maximize position accuracy in dense urban environments or areas with heavy coverage. It provides continuous positioning even under poor signal conditions and during complete signal loss, such as in short tunnels or parking garages. This makes it the ideal solution for autonomous robotic applications that require accurate positioning in challenging conditions.

The ZED-F9R GPS Breakout supports I2C, which is perfect for Qwiic compatibility. This means you don't have to use up your precious UART ports. Thanks to the Qwiic system, no soldering is required to connect it to the rest of your system. However, 2.54mm-spaced pins are also provided for those who prefer to use a breadboard.

U-blox based GPS products can be configured using the popular u-center windows program. The ZED-F9R GPS Breakout allows for the configuration of various functions such as baud rates, update rates, geofencing, spoofing detection, external interrupts, SBAS/D-GPS and more, all of which can be done within the SparkFun Arduino Library.

The ZED-F9R GPS Breakout comes equipped with an on-board rechargeable battery that powers the RTC on the ZED-F9R, reducing the time-to-first fix from a cold start (~26s) to a hot start (~2s). This battery can maintain RTC and GNSS orbit data for a long time without being connected to power.

Please note that this product requires an antenna. Be sure to select a suitable U.FL antenna for your project from the related products/hookup accessories.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is a robust ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that simplify prototyping and reduce the likelihood of errors. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector, saving PCB space and preventing incorrect connections.
