For precision temperature sensing, the Platinum RTD stands unrivaled. Resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), particularly the PT100 type, contain a resistor of platinum that shifts in resistance with temperature changes. This makes them a highly stable and precise alternative to most thermistors.
This PT100 sensor features a stainless steel shield, offering functionality between -50°C and 280°C. Measuring 100 ohms at 0°C, its resistance changes at a nominal rate of 0.385Ω/°C, ensuring high accuracy, repeatability, and stability across laboratory and industrial processes.
The sensor includes three wires: two for primary connection across the platinum resistor and a third for compensating voltage drops in three-wire amplifier systems. This makes the PT100 versatile and compatible with various setups, especially when paired with our Adafruit RTD sensor breakout.
