Adafruit EL Wire Sound Activated Pocket Inverter - 5V USB Power

A small, portable inverter for EL wire with an audio input transforms any environment by lighting connected EL materials in response to sound. Designed with a built-in microphone, it brings your projects to life through the surrounding audio.

Operating on a 5V input, this inverter is compatible with any USB power pack. It efficiently powers up to 3 meters (10 feet) of high-brightness EL wire, 1 meter (3 feet) of EL tape, or a 10cmx10cm EL panel continuously for approximately 21 hours with 4xAA batteries.

Equipped with a switch for steady, sound, and off modes, it provides flexibility in usage. The steady mode keeps it always on, while the sound mode syncs light with audio signals. It includes a 2.5mm female JST connector for easy direct connection of EL wire or tape.

Designed to ensure safe operation, it needs at least 2 feet of EL wire load to stabilize. Running without a load may result in damage due to inverter spikes. Housed in either a silver or black case, its 2000 Hz oscillation may produce a slight audible sound, which can be minimized by lining the case with thick foam tape or weatherstripping and applying hot glue around the capacitors.
